Judy Colella was born in New York City in 1953; she was adopted at birth, and went into foster care for the first two years of her life through the New York Foundling Home. At age two, she was adopted by two wonderful people who raised her in White Plains, New York, a suburb of Manhattan; when she was six, they adopted her brother, who was two. Her birth-parents were musicians and entertainers, and she began playing piano at the age of three. Her adoptive mother began teaching her to read soon after this, and she has retained a love of reading throughout her life.
When she was older, she spent hours in the library, and if she couldn’t find a book that suited her mood, she would go home and write it herself. As a result, she’s written many books over the years, but never tried publishing any of them, believing they were only good enough for her own entertainment. However, her children read some of them, began encouraging her to try and get published, and The MacDara Chronicles is the result of their prodding.
She currently lives in Florida, and divides her time among several endeavors – her family, teaching music, writing, the occasional typing job, and training their German Shepherd not to use the cat as a chew-toy.
